Staff networks

The City St George's Women's Network is open to professional and academic staff from all Schools and Professional Service Units.

The role of the network is to:

• Provide a forum where members can share their experiences, learn from and empower each other
• Celebrate the success of our members and create meaningful connections across the University
• Encourage members to realise their potential within City St George's and beyond; making active and informed choices
• Hold regular events that facilitate the aims of the network and the interests of the members
• Become a representative voice for women at City St George's through consultation on University policies and working with the Gender Equality Working Group (GEWG) and other affinity groups.

The WAND Network (staff network for Wellbeing, Accessibility, Neurodiversity and Disability) is a welcoming group for disabled staff, staff with long-term health conditions, staff who care for disabled dependents and staff with an interest in disability and mental health.

The network has a Teams community where members can:

• Share and discuss in a safe and confidential space
• Exchange and promote ideas, resources, and events
• Collaborate on problems, solutions, and future possibilities for inclusivity at City St George's
• Understand the range of support available at City St George's and how to access them
• Raise problems and solutions for the network Chairs to progress (for example, ensuring wheelchair accessibility for all City St George's buildings)
• Raise awareness of disability issues experienced by a range of people with physical, cognitive and mental health conditions including environmental, behavioural and institutional barriers.

The Family and Carers Exchange Network is starting a conversation at City St George's about the issues facing these groups with a view to achieving positive change and raising awareness of City St George's policies that support families and carers.

The current priorities of the network include but are not limited to;

• Reviewing and implementing leave related policies and support
• Promoting the flexible working policy
• Exploring options for childcare provision
• Creating support networks for parents and carers.

The LGBTQIA+ Network

The LGBTQIA+ network at City St George's, University of London is here to raise the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community. It enables the group to meet regularly on matters to promote inclusivity and greater understanding and awareness of diversity here at City St George's.

The group holds events during the year that promote greater awareness of who we are as a community.

We see our purpose as:

• A forum for networking and peer support between LGBTQIA+ Staff and other universities and external agencies.
• A forum that engages with City St George's to support change through inclusivity and collaboration with other colleagues and areas within the university.
• To raise awareness within the City St George's community of LGBTQIA+ issues and liaising with staff and the Student Union and student societies to share information.
• Collaborating with City St George's to shape its policy and procedures on matters related to LGBTQIA+ staff.

The Network for Racial Justice

The Network for Racial Justice (NRJ) is a staff affinity group for People of Colour (PoC) at City St George's. The NRJ aims to bring together PoC staff members – both professional and academic – who feel passionate about racial justice and want to see a truly inclusive environment at City St George's.

The role of the network is to:

• Support PoC staff
• Enable PoC staff to feel that they are valued and have a vital role within City St George's
• Identify, discuss and raise awareness of issues affecting PoC staff and students with key decision makers
• Collaborate with university leadership to drive change
• Hold university leadership to account
• Raise the profile of the Network through events
• Provide a forum where staff can network and share opportunities
• Provide a safe space where staff can raise their concerns in a confidential environment
• Provide an opportunity for staff to update each other on local and national policy developments.

Faith and Belief

A multi-faith and belief network for all staff across City St George's.

The new staff Faith and Belief Network was launched at an event during Inter-Faith week.

City St George's Chaplaincy team and Office for Institutional Equity and Inclusion hosted a panel discussion exploring ‘living out your faith in the workplace’. Made up of academic and professional services staff, the panel discussed their own faith identities and how these can present both joys and challenges at work.

Faith and Belief is represented at City St George's, University of London through the presence of a Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Team, through the Student Faith Societies representing many of the world faiths and through provision of space for prayer and reflection.

The Chaplaincy Team is on hand to provide general spiritual/pastoral support as well as faith-specific support. The team can also advise and work with other networks as the need arises. The Chaplains have an open door policy and are available to all staff and students regardless of belief.

• Staff prayer and bible study
• Chaplaincy drop-In
• Jummah (Muslim Friday prayers)
• Termly events are held to mark major faith festivals.
